Supporting the maintenance of the Jalles

Recognising the importance of the Jalles to the local area, EMME considered their preservation from the earliest stages of the project's design.

The site layout was carefully developed to avoid impacts wherever possible, in line with the Avoid – Reduce – Compensate (ERC) mitigation hierarchy.

Beyond protecting the Jalles, EMME is committed to working alongside local stakeholders to support their long-term maintenance and proper functioning as part of its broader approach to environmental responsibility, sustainability and local integration

What are the Jalles?

The Jalles are a distinctive network of waterways that forms an important ecological and landscape feature of the region.

They play a key role in regulating water flows, supporting biodiversity, maintaining the ecological balance of surrounding natural habitats.

A responsible and collaborative approach

Regular maintenance of the Jalles is essential to ensure their hydraulic performance and to prevent silting, blocked waterways and bank erosion.

As part of its environmental commitments, EMME intends to contribute to the maintenance of the Jalles located near the future site whenever such actions can help improve their functioning.

This contribution will be carried out in coordination with local authorities, water management organisations and the relevant public bodies. Discussions are currently underway with stakeholders to define the scope and implementation of this contribution.

An approach consistent with the project's commitments

Supporting the maintenance of the Jalles surrounding the project is an integral part of EMME's environmental strategy.

It reflects the company's commitment to developing a sustainable industrial project that is fully integrated into its local environment and built through ongoing dialogue with stakeholders.

This approach has been recognised on several occasions, notably by the independent guarantors appointed by the French National Commission for Public Debate (CNDP) and by the Public Inquiry Commission, which highlighted the project's environmental commitments in its final report.
